A rectangular coffee table is the most basic and commonly found coffee tables in most of the homes. It’s also the most easiest one to style too, in my opinion.
All you gotta do is split the surface of your rectangular coffee table into a 3 x 3 grid. You can either do this mentally or if you struggle with visualizing, use a painter’s tape. A painter’s tape is the safest tape to use in a home project as it causes zero damage.
Then, you simply have to begin styling the middle row of the grid, leaving enough margin.
Start by placing a vase with fresh or faux stems in the middle section.
Tip: Make sure the vase you choose and the stems you put in it are all proportional in size to the coffee table. For example, a sleek cylindrical vase with tall stems will be too big for a coffee table and if your furniture is pointing to the TV you might struggle with operating the remote. Keep in mind the functionality while balancing the decor.
Add a stack of books (2-3 at the most) on one side of the vase. These can be your favorite coffee table books, a great way to showcase your personality! They are also nice conversation starters.
Tip: When choosing coffee table books, go for books with hardcovers and neutral or muted colors. These bring the sophistication you see in a designer-styled space.
Top off the stack of books with a decorative bowl or a box. This can hold your TV remotes, a clever way to hide all the coffee table clutter.
On the other side of the vase, place a tray. You can go for a rattan tray, it adds a lot of variation and depth to the scene. You can then style the tray by adding more coffee table books, a candle, a decor object like a wooden knot, etc.
The stems, candle and decor objects are all pieces you can swap out seasonally.
Remember, coffee table styling is all about adding a variety of height, placing objects in a group of three and most importantly - having fun with it! Happy styling!!!
